I traded my '01 Dakota for a new '04, sight unseen. The new truck has no ashtray! Has anyone retrofitted an older dash? They (the '01 and '04) look exactly the same to me, other than the ashtray-will I find room to install an ashtray once the dash is pulled?

You can buy the "Smokers Package" online from Dodge or at any dealer for around $25. Has an ashtray that fits the drivers side cupholder and a plug in lighter.

Do what I did, Buy one of those cups with an ashtray lid. Beer joints sell them. You might be able to find one in a Wal-Mart or a store like that. Then just keep it in one of your cup holders. The guys blasting you above are most likely ex-smokers! Its our right to smoke if we want to. Their almost as bad as the goverment with telling us what we can and cannot do with our lives!

I don't smoke, but was pissed when I got my 03 and noticed it didn't have an ash tray. There's no good place in the truck to put small items like change, fuses, extra bulbs,,, the change holder in the arm rest is a friggin joke.
I am with ya Lloyd, but don't have an answer. Dodge's POS ash tray takes up your cup holder and costs $25, gee thanks! How about making the interior if the truck useable.
I would like to know what Dodge intended to be put into the dash recesses and the shallow recess in the door panel,,, crap that needs to be on the floor.
Thanks for letting me vent,,, I feel much better now ;-)

I only have a single cupholder in the front of my quad cab as I have a manual trans. At least I can reach the dual cupholer that sticks out of the back seat. I think it sucks to lose a cupholer in the front of the cab just because you have a manual trans. On the plus side, I do have an ashtray (don't smoke) and lighter to plug my radar detector in! I use the auxillary socket for a cell phone charger.

dealers dump them at auctions.
I got mine real cheep at an auction but it stunk.
Took out, washed and cleaned dash. seats, rug etc.
Replaced entire headliner.
Had a dealer friend run a de-stinker unit in it for 2 days.
Still run a deionizer in it.
Moral of the story. If you smoke in it - don't expect to get any trade in money for it.
