Thanks guys. I appreciate the info you post. When I get a hold of a !%*#@! 180 t-stat, I'll remove the fan also.

AC,

Autozone. Bypass the Counter Zombies, go to the cooling system section. Part number is GT-755-180.

And as Todd pointed out, I too carried mine in the bed under a bungee cord for three months...

The AutoZone I went to had the t-stats behind the counter :( So...knowing that punching in my vehicle info into their computer would come up empty on a t-stat search, I had them type in the part #. That's how I knew they stopped carrying them in Dec 2002. Maybe it's only at this particular AutoZone. I will check around in other cities, or maybe try to order from their website.

Thanks

I checked out some info on www.dakota-durango.com and there was a Stant part #65358 180 degree t-stat mentioned there. Is this a viable alternative to the GT755-180 for my engine? I went to the AutoZone website and they don't even have the GT755-180 listed there anymore.

Talk about frustration!

Any 180 t-stat will do. I am not even sure if mine has the HD cooling stuff, but we're in the middle of the 3rd straight summer of no fan in the Atlanta heat and it does just fine. I hardly even look at the temp gauge anymore.....

I have a 2003 Quad cab 4X4 still uner warranty and would like to remove my fan and fan clutch. Is it possible to reinstall it if I need some warranty work done. If I get above 7 thousand feet elevation (Colorado) the noise is unbearable. Any thoughts. Thanks, Brian

it can be put right back on and the power of the motor and the way it turns it will tighten itself back on,but with the tempature around bout 70% seting at stop lights it will get alittle hot and maybe with pulling it.The electric fan will kick itself on when it gets to i think 230% and thats about when you should shut the motor off,but i dont think you'll have to worry about 70% any time soon,oh yea its tricky to get it off, took me awhile mines back on now.

Midnightdak,

I don't share your opinions/experiences.

Taking it off is easy, and simple. Some people go out of their way to make it hard, special tools, etc.

As far as getting hot in traffic, and the elec. coming on when you should be shutting the motor off-?

Like I said, I don't share those experiences.

Does anyone have experience with clutch/fan removal and still using the stock 195 degree t-stat? I'm sure the 180 is the way to go with this mod, but I'm just curious about the 195's performance.

Get a wrench (36mm I believe), put it on the nut, give it a moderate whack with a hammer (swinging from right to left) and that's it. The nut will now come off. It's attached to the back side of the fan. You don't need to wedge anything, stand on one foot, or have any other special tools. It's just that simple. I ran the stock 195 for a while with my electric fan and it was just fine. Unless your thermostat sticks shut you won't have a problem. Of course the 180 allows the truck to run in it's optimum temperature range. The 195 is just for smog purposes, keeps things hotter and gets rid of the bad guys that kind of thing.
