I replaced the rotors and put in new pads on my 01 club cab last weekend. I did not replace the calipers since it only has 30,000 miles. A few days later when I pulled off the road the left front brake was smoking. This was just normal driving, not a steep downgrade or anything. I have replaced brakes before on other vehicles but never had anything like this happen. Any thoughts on best route to go from here?

My 97 did the same thing on passenger side. Ended up replacing the caliper. I have heard that it can develop a groove & rough spot where it hangs up that can be filed down. Mine had to be replaced though. Good luck.

Please tell me what you find out about your front brake problem. I've now had this problem off and on for the past two years with no real resolution. I've had the rotors replaced, turned, as well as new pads installed. The problem always occurs under normal conditions (no heavy loads, bed empty). Its driving me crazy and its downright dangerous.

From the "hot wheels" post it looks like we are not alone. It had not happended again after that one time on driver's side so I figured it was a fluke that had worked its way out. It just happened again, but this time on passenger side. I ordered rebuilt calipers and will install them next weekend. From the hot wheels post it sounds like I also need to flush the fluid. I will let you know if it seems to cure the problem.

My 2001 is doing the same thing with only 19000 miles. Seems that the caliper pistons stick when the brakes get warm. Ordered new pistons and rubber parts from Dodge. Will post what I find out when I get the calipers apart.
