Subject: hi beam switch...?

Message:
ok. this may sound crazy..

but i recently got a high beam / low beam switch out of an older chevy; the step on (floor) kind. i would like to install this in my 87 dakota if at all possible.

has anyone done this? or does anyone know the wire skematics of the hi / low beam switch?

thanks

wht would anyone in their right mind want too. those old things were abandoned in the 70's for a reason. actuallt two. you could not left foot the clutch/brake if needed and the things broke often.

actaully. they were still used up in to the late 80s. we had an 87 bronco, and it had one.

my truck is an auto. and the switch came out of a 76 or 77 chevy truck, and it still worked.

it is just much more convenient on the floor i think.

does anyone have any helpful advice?

get a haynes manual, it'll have the wiring diagrams you'll need, but I'm not sure how you'll route the wiring for the switch itself. you may end up having to bypass the high beam switch on the column to accomplish this. it may be as simple as finding the wire that operates the hibeams and cutting it to splice in the switch, but I'm only familiar with the floor switch for fords... my 65 Stang has one. I'll look at the diagrams I have and see what I can come up with... I'll try to post back this weekend.

the car manufacturers started to phase them out in the 70's I had a 78 tbird and a 79 stang and neither one of them had floor switch hi-beams SO LIKE I SAID they phased them out in the 70's only vehicles aimed at knuckle draggin red necks still had them ergo your bronco.

"knuckle draggin red necks"? wow... i dont even know what to say... i guess you tight-pants-greasy-haired-mullet guys were a little too advanced in the 80s for the floor mount switches... im suprised you didnt say you drive an IROC....

but i hate to tell you, most trucks had em in the 80s still, i dunno bout you, but your head was prolly too far up you ass to notice. well hey when you think of something half constructive to say. come back, but til, have a nice day...

oh, ps, find somethin better to do with your time...

thanks
