Subject: Charges for pressing Bjoint and bushings IP: Logged
Message: What have people run into when having their ball joints or control arm bushings pressed in and out, I'm going to take the arms to a shop to have it done, just curious what other people have been charged, so I don't get taken for a ride.

Message: Why not borrow the tool from your local auto parts store and do it yourself?

Message: I may do that for the ball joint, but it seems that the control arm bushings will require a large press, since you need a press that will fit both sides at once oin the arm, and the rented hand press doesn't look big enough.

Message: not all auto shops will do that sort of thing without doing the whole job. most machine shops will (mine does) and charge about 50 bucks an hour for that type of work. It should take less then a half hour to do all 4.

Message: Well, I brought mine to a machine shop, all was well it seemed, $40 to press all 4 in(I had taken the old ones out) but when I got home I noticed that one of the washers that should be on the inside of the bushing was not there, I'm not sure if I didn't send it with the otehr stuff, or if they forgot it, either way, the other three were there and they should have known I needed it. So now I need to go back and have that one done again.
