Subject: AC compressor always on IP: Logged
Message: '95 5.2L SLT 2wd entended cab, AT
Well it isn't always on. The clutch engages and disengages like it should but all the time. Even when it's not on. Also my vent blow hot air no matter where the lever is, red, blue, recirc, doesn't matter. It's getting warmer now and this sucks.
Is the Compressor suppose to clutch-up all the time? I don't think so, and if not, that would explain why my MPG and HP seem to be in the toilet.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Message: Compresser runs all the time unless you turn heat/cool all the way off meaning fan > If your heat control is not changing things for you best bet is a leaking vacumn line > My best guess there

Message: On our dakotas the a/c compressor is always running no matter what temp you set it for ...... if the compressor is cycling on and off in a very short amount of time and it is blowing warm/hot air then the freon in the system is either low or gone........

Message: The compressor should only run on A/C or Defrost. If the freon is totally gone, it won't come on at all. It'll short cycle (clutch engage and disengage) if the charge is low (indication of a refrigerant leak). Low pressure switch on the suction side will turn it off each time the back pressure drops below about 20 psig. Look for oily areas at refrigerant tubing joints and at the pressure switches, and caps on the fitting ports. (oil in the compressor mixes with the refrigerant and travels throughout the system and anywere it leaks it'll deposit oily areas) Or use soapy water and look for bubbles.
