Message: Hey everyone, My 2001 Dodge Dakota 5.9 R/T recently started having tranny problems. All of a sudden my rear gear went out as I was trying to leave for a call at work, I have about 62,000 on it. Its under warranty but I can't prove the maintanence reciepts, buddy did it under the table at his dearlership. So they want 1,950 to repair it. I have about 13,000 left on it and i've been thinking about just trading it in for a new hemi. Went to the dealership and they told me i could lease 2 own an 05' SRT-10 Quad cab for 500 a month. Or i could buy a new 05 hemi quad cab with soon roof for about 34 (can get them lower) Any thoughts on this? Just feel totally iffy about doing anything.. thanks for your help!

Message: Well, only you know if you really need a 500+ horsepower pickup truck. I'd envy your bragging rights, but not your gas mileage, insurance costs, registration tax and monthly payments.
A $500/month lease sounds suspiciously low on a $50,000 truck, be sure to check the length of the lease. DON'T lease past 39 months - it's a trap that's VERY hard to get out of. I leased my 05 Dakota SLT CC for about $404/mo, with some negative equity built in, for 39 mos. That was on a ~$26,000 vehicle, and I got a pretty good deal, on a good truck, that's more no or less what I need my truck to do.
If your RT is having tranny problems, don't kid yourself you can avoid the cost of fixing it just by trading it in - either you shell out the dough for it, or they'll take it off the trade value at the dealership and it'll get rolled into your deal on the next truck. Someone will pay for it one way or another - probably you. By trading that problem in, you'll end up paying for it PLUS finance interest. Car dealerships aren't in the charity business....
I would have liked to get a new Hemi Ram myself, but I frankly don't need that much heft, and expense. And as far as an SRT-10 goes...well, whatever floats your boat; if you can handle the payments (and it's not just lease - it's also gas mileage, insurance, registration....), knock yourself out.

Message: i dont see the reason why you have to prove any maintenece records to them. does the fluid in either look 62k old? dont let dodge get away with fuking you. fight it till they pay for a rebuild or try another dealership. many people do thier own service and it is up to dodge to PROVE that you didnt maintain your truck and that caused the problems. if they cant prove it then it is up to them to repair it

Message: your dealer is feeding you crap. my bro-in-law has a '02 SXT CC w/ 67,000 miles. he just had trans trouble and brought it to dealer(forgot what code it had) and they fixed it under 7/70 warranty, $100 deductible. the thing is with 67k on the odo, he NEVER had the trans serviced before. NEVER. now go tell them to fix your truck like they are supposed to.

Message: Here's my question..
Just what Gas millage does a SRT-10 Ram get in the first place? I drove a Ram 2500 (488V10), of course it's got higher gears in the rear 3.55:1, and also being a regular cab its saves a bit of weight but still quite hafty. I got about 15 MPG on the freeway cruising at around 100 KM or 62 mph.
So whats the best fuel millage can you sqeeze out of a lighter SRT-10? Since you can get a 6 speed T56 I'm gessing you can sqeeze out at least 17 if you can keep your foot off the floor which in some ways (WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE!).
Ok Dakota Jim, whats your auto tranny doing that would be causing it to have problems?
Those 46RH or RE are none shift harsh any way..Trust me I'm a customer at Auto Zone looking for fluid that it actuely likes.

Message: Joe, I read someplace that the '05 SRT-10 gets 9mpg city, 12mpg highway.
So, if you were used to, say 16mpg City in a Dakota, you'd just about double your fuel costs...at a time when it's heading north in a hurry anyway....

Message: Try another dealership - that one's just looking to make money on both ends (they'll lowball your trade because its got a bad tranny; then bill chrysler for warranty work as they fix the tranny to sell it.) Then they'll take a nice profit on what they sell/lease you too !
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: So true other bear, I really don't need the SRT-10 my eyes just lit up when i saw it. Yeah its an extremely bogus lease plan that I wouldn't ever want to be caught up in. I'm definately going to fight it. I can't go in reverse, it just whines up. It looks like i lost my rear gear, and the service manager told me there is definate internal tranny problems. Now heres some more bs, they need a letter from the Lean Holder stating that its ok for them do even do maintence on it, because the tranny will exceed over 700 bucks. Then there telling me that in order for them too even look at it, I need to put 2000 down on a credit card that they can hold. I"m like wtf just fix my tranny!! haha so its either going to be a shinny new dodge ram, so the bastard service technician won't get his comission check, or he'll realize the hastle and fix it. I mean why bother getting the extended warranty if they won't even honer it?

Shurly the SRT-10 gets better than 12 on the hwy. I thinking at least 15 or better for a RC with a 6speed tranny.
Also who much better is the 48RE than the 47RE?
Does Chrysler finaly got a auto to talk about?
