Subject: Good Tire recommendation?
IP: Logged

Message:
I am sporting BFG Radial TA tires on my 2wd CC (4.7L) at this time and have noticed that they are losing the tread a li'l faster than I would like them too.

Now I know that laying into the pedal from a dead stop and leaving 20" of rubber on the road causes my tread to go faster....duh, but I have always understood a "soft compound" tire (like Mickey Thompson)would not wear as quick.

What tires are considered "soft compound" and can I walk into a Tire Kingdom or Allied Tires and buy them? Any recommendations on a specific brand?

A softer rubber compound will wear more quickly. It will hook up better off the line, but wear faster in general.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Goodyear Eagle RS-A (no, not SR-As)tires on my Dak and wifes car. Luv 'em. Not cheap, but wear well, handle excelent, look great. (FYI, these are what Boyd Coddington uses on all his rods, if they're good enough for that...)
Find someone you can trust at a tire shop (might be hard to do) and ask all the right questions. Tread life, traction, etc.
Good luck.

Check out Tirerack .com and see the Bridgstone REVO II. I loved these on my QC 4x4. Great snow, rain and dry traction. Low noise and not until they started to wear WAY down did I catch corners (spin the inside tire around corners!) I would put these on again.

I have Kelly Charger 255/60/15 on my 96 dakota. They are a newer tire so i dont know if you can find them. I got mine at Tire Barn. Tread look great and has worn good so far. Good traction a cornering.
