Subject: Pipe wrench to remove threaded Bjoint? IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone tried this? I don't want to spend $30 on a special socket if I don't need to, plus wait for it to arrive since no-one around here carries it. I was looking at it last night, and figure a pipe wrench should do it. 94, slt 4x4

Message: If you are removing it because its no good, then go for it.
If you want to reuse it, you may want to wait for the tool, or find one to rent or borrow.

Message: I am going to replace it if I take it out, but I'm guessing I'll need to use the pipe wrench to put the new one in too. maybe if I protect the new one when putting it in somehow.

Message: ok, I took the ball joint off with a decent size pipe wrench and a three foot pipe on it. It took a bit of a push to get it started, but it came out nicely. plus I was surprised, the ball joint didn't show any damage from the pipe wrench. I just made sure it was square on it. Glad I didn't buy the $30 socket.
