I have had the great luxury of being able to drive rental vehicles for the last 15 months. The tim is ended and I need to buy a vehicle. Three of the vehicles I have driven long term (2-4 months) have been dakotas. I have driven 2 2004's and one 2005. all had the V-8 auto (4.7L). Now I am going to buy a 2001 or 2002. Config I have been driving is the quad cab, SLT. I am curious what the major differences are between the V-6 and the V-8. The trucks I have been driving have been auto, does it make sense to go manual if I use the V-6?

I do not haul much weight and am more interested in economy than power. BUT, I like the pre-'05 dakotas. Have not warmed up to the sharper lines or ugly front bumper yet.

If you are fuel economy minded, don't buy a Dodge!
If you do buy a Dodge, then don't settle for the V6. There isn't enough difference between the 10/18 or 12/19 gas mileage to justify a V6 in a HEAVY vehicle.

I have decided to go for the V8. I was also debating between the club or quad cab. Again, think I will go for the quad since it is much much friendler to people who have ride in the back.

Now, when is that turb-diesel coming to the Dakota?
