well i have decided to do the swap from my 3.9 to the 5.2 since that is the easiest swap possible. however, now that i am looking for 5.2 engines i've noticed when i look at "car-parts.com" some engines are from dakotas and some are not. for example is a 1997 5.2 v8 from a grand cherokee the same as the 5.2 from the dakota?? is it the same as from the 1500? and even in dakotas is a 5.2 from a 99' the same as a 5.2 from a 97' or 98'? thanks in advance!

Aside from some minor differences in the cam timing in the 1992's as opposed to all later models, all Magnum 318's 1992 and up are the same, regardless of the vehicle.
