I have a coolant leak that appears to be dripping from the front of the transmission housing visable from underneath the truck. It's not a constant drip. It appears only to happens within an hour of shutting of the truck. It leaves about a puddle the size of my palm and that's it. I can't see any signs of leaks on any of the hoses heater/radiator. Everything looks dry viewing the engine compartment. Does anyone have any ideas of what it might be. Thanks

I just found the exact same thing on my '99 4x4 5.2L! I cant seem to locate the source, but I need to put coolant in every week or so because of this leak. Is there a freeze out plug that could be leaking? How many are on each side of the 5.2L ?

Steves RT360, are you sure it's coolant and not A/C condensation? Have you had to add coolant each time?

Mine's done the same thing for a while now.

It is one of two freeze plugs on the very back of the block where the tranny meets the block. I have the same symptoms as rt360. I looked for weeks before I found the source. The best way to check is to remove your starter and look up in the hole with a small mirror and a flash light. If you are more adventurous try removing the flywheel dust plate to get a better look.

The damn thing is just out of reach to fix myself so I am having a tranny shop drop the tranny and replace the two plugs (steel) with brass plugs. The tranny shop I called said this happens all the time with our dodge trucks. The quote is about $350 for labor and 98 cents for the plug.

I called the dealer and they said there is quite a few plugs in the block, two of which are on the back of the block, Four down each side and I think they said one on each head (or just below the head) in back as well.

What a design! I'd rather fix the problem by dropping a smallblock CHEVY in

If it would cost my only $350 in labor to have this done, I guess I would not complain too bad. Seems pretty cheap considering the cost of labor most shops charge.
