Message: I've been looking into getting a one-man brake bleeding kit. Anyone have any? I've seen several at the auto parts stores, sears, etc. Anyone use any of these? pros? cons?

Message: I have a small vacume pump used for this purpose (and a few others). It's Mity-Vac brand, I think. Something like that.
Anyway, I've used it a few times, and I'm not impressed. I always seem to go back to the old fashioned pump and release method.
Russell makes speed bleeders. It's a low pressure one way valve. You just open the valve, connect a catch hose, and pump the pedal.

Message: JEGS has one that pumps new stuff through from the master cylinder. I got one but haven't used it yet. Don't remember the brand.

Message: I've tried the one man kits twice. Never had any luck with them. Maybe there is a trick to getting them to work well, but I always went back to the two man method.

Message: The little hand pump vaccume bleeder is a joke, needs more power...
I made a home brew brake bleeder out of a 5 gallon bucket and a shop vac. Drill a couple of holes in the top of the 5 gallon bucket's lid for the vac's hose and 5' of clear tubing. Connect the hose to the bleeder, kick on the vac, crack the bleder screw and away she goes.
My big shop vac sucked in the sides of the 5 gallon bucket, but it still worked great. I drilled another hole in the bucket top to allow some air to pass into the vac, seemed to make the vac work better as it could suck some air. I guess any sturdy container would work for this, I just had a couple of 5 gallon buckets handy.
