Subject: ok to mix synthetics? IP: Logged
Message: Is it ok to mix different brands of synthetic oils if they are the same weight? What if they were different, say, 5w30 with 5w40? Thanks.

Message: By mixing 5w30 and 5w40 equally you make it 5w35.
Please, don`t mix different brands and why mix dif. viscosities. Chose one that you trust from 0w20 to straight 60. Most engines, 90% of them, do just fine with one of these: 5 or 10w30, 0r
5 0r 10w40, depending on the temperature. If you leave in Alaska, 0 or 5w30 woul`d be best and if in Arizona, 10w30. This is for the 4.7 engine.

Message: Mr Oil,
Are you sure you're not just mixing synthetics, that are really just dino oils? Most all synthetics are just dino oils, cept Mobil 1, Amsoil, just few if any others. Matter of fact, MObil 1 is marketing alot of mixed dino oils also I think, but still have a true synthetic in their line up.

Message: At my last oil change they put in 5w30 Valvoline SynPower. Every few weeks I have to add a quart. Last time I went shopping I couldn't find the SynPower anywhere, so I picked up some Mobil 1. Truck is fine now, but if I can't add the Mobil 1 to the Valvoline SynPower, I need to get something else or do an oil change.

Super syn mobil 1 is pure synthetic. As far as I know, you can mix them.
