Subject: check engine light - state inspection IP: Logged
Message: Hey there,
I have a quick question, my 2001 Dakota has it's check engine light on due to a couple O2 sensors out. It is not throwing codes for any emissions leak or problem, just the bad O2 sensors. That being the case, does anyone know if Texas state inspection will fail it based on that, or will it pass as long as it's not having an emissions problem ?
I really appreciate any input on this, thanks

Message: i would tend to think if you're getting codes for bad o2's, you are having emissions probs and if they sniff the tailpipe you would probably fail.

Message: It will fail. Texas checks for MIL status on their OBDII test. OBDI gets the sniffer only. If your truck is throwing codes for O2 sensors then they will fail it. That is one of the things they check as the O2 sensors are tied to the emissions system.

Message: Your still under warranty anyway. Anyone know how long the 02`s are covered?

Message: The federal emissions warranty should have you covered for 8 years/80,000 miles on this.
