Subject: Fuel pump problem?
IP: Logged

Message:
I was on my way to work the other day when my '99 R/T started bogging down on acceleration. When I pulled into a parking lot, the engine stalled, and it hasn't started up since. (It'll turn over and knock a couple times, and then die again.)

I'm thinking fuel pump, but I was wondering if there's a way to check it without dropping the tank? (I have half a tank of gas in there.)

I've tried listening for the pump to turn on when I turn on the battery, but the only electric motor buzz I hear seems to be coming from the engine compartment.

Thanks.
-M

Get underneath the truck and bang on the fuel tank with your shoe or a rubber malet, sometimes this will jar the pump. Have a friend their to crank while you do this too. Try it by itself then both crank and bang. Its worked for me, if not check to see if you have power to the pump. Remember it's only going to show power that initial turn of the key and it'll only cycle twice if you don't actually crank the engine over.

you need completely dismantle the truck and drain the gas tank. then you need to find a blue wire and coming from the engine and snip it. then snip a red wire and connect the blue and red wires with duct tape. you may need to have a high-powered fire extinguisher handy. if performed properly, this will give your truck an extra 100 hp!

It might be easier to take the bed off instead of dropping the tank. Seems to be a popular idea here on these boards and I know some people who have done it.
