Subject: Speedo and Odometer reading IP: Logged
Message: I got a weird question, but after i got bigger tires (29 inch diameter to 31 inchers) My speedo is off by 5 percent or so, which i knew would occur, but i dont really mind. However, I was wondering if putting bigger tires than w/ the stock tires were affected the Odometer reading of how many miles drivin? If so, i might want to recalibrate it.

Message: I was told it would...which makes perfect sense if you think about it. I wouldn't recalibrate it though. It makes your vehicle look like it has less miles so it's a plus. Although it also throws your trip off as well...which sucks when you're going on long trips or trying to calculate your gas mileage as good as you can.

Message: Yes it does affect your odometer and how many miles driven. Basically, the speedo gear counts the rotations of the tires then adds up the distance travelled per rotation and now your tires go further on each rotation. The bigger tires are going 6.28 inches gurther per rotation. Doesn't seem like like much but for every 14,500 miles on the odo, your truck will have travelled an extra 1000 miles more, almost 7%.

Message: I recently installed 4.10 ring and pinion. I have taller than stock tires. My speedo is way off and my mileage is now 1.2 miles for every "real" mile I go. Apparently my odometer isnt calibrated to tire rotation. Where is the Gen ll odometer calibrated from?

Message: furball69...1,000 miles MORE? I think you got that backwards...bigger tires = less rotations = less distance.
