I have a 94 dodge dakota ext. cab 2 wheel dr. sht. bed pickup...my concern is that I had to replace my rack and pinion and I marked everything as I proceeded to uninstall, as told by my mechanically inclined friend,...lol, anyway when I went to reinstall a new rack and pinion and then drove the truck it pulls to the right pretty bad...so is there a certain number of turns for the tie rods to line up or a measurement I can use to line it myself, I don't understand because I marked everything as it was for the old unit...unless the new one is slightly different! HELP PLEASE! THANKS A MILLION!

after replacong the steering rack you need to have the front end aligned and that can only be done on an alignment rack. take it to a local tire dealer as almost all of them have one, spend the 50 bucks and get it done by a pro. trying to do it your self will get you close, but from what you have already said, you have no idea. The other downside to not having it done is the 80 buck or so each, tires you have can wear out in under 20 thousand miles instead of the 50 or 60 or even sometimes more that they are warrented for. If the dealer you go to and complain about low wearout milage does a check and finds it to be bad, the will not stand up to the warrenty. plus with the high cost of gas, the extra effort to push a misaligned truck down the road will cost you a lot in gas too.so over the course of 50 thousand miles a lack of a good alignment could cost you over a thousand bucks in gas and tires just becouse you are too cheap to spend 50.
