I have a VERY hard time believing that one 8" JL Audio is going to sound better than two 10" MTX woofers, provided you give the MTX enough power. I say this based on the perfomance of a JL audio stealth box a friend had in a F150. It sounded clean, but didn't hit all that hard. I don't listen to rap EVER, but I like a little more bass than what the JL stealth box provided.

Sounds like it might give you more storage. Is that correct?

From my experience JL is pretty good and MTX speakers are crap. It's a good thing they sell the thunderform box unloaded.

I have the stealth box and am very pleased with it. Haven't heard a MTX, so I can't give you an honest comparison. I can tell you this, I think mine is better... lol

MTX are crap? I guess that is all up for debate, but the only crapy MTX I have ever heard was due to improper box size, provided power or quick and nasty installs. On carreview.com the MTX 6000 series have a 4.68 out of 5 rating, and that is with 64 people providing reviews. The JL audio 8w6 did well to, but only 11 people gave feedback. As far as them being trash, I think it is fair to say you are in a vast minority of people who have that opinion. As for comparison of the 6000 series 10" and the 8w6 8", that is pretty easy to figure out if you have some experience in speakers. Just take a look at the specs on the MTX and the JL audio and I think you will find that the MTX is more effecient than the JL audio at 1W/1m. But, that info is better saved for a stereo discussion board.

Thanks,
Stan

I've heard some pretty crappy MTX speakers in my opinion. Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone that has them. I don't have much speaker experience. I only won the last show I was at because I had 40 JBL 15" speakers ran by 6 DJ amps, 2 hospital generators, 11 batteries and a lot more. There was a guy that had some MTX speakers but he didn't win anything. I wouldn't say I am in a vast minority. Of course if thats what you have and you dont know much about high end systems you would like them. JL is a little bit more of a high end speaker. MTX, sorry to tell you, is more of a low end speaker. I do like their boxes though. They arent exactly designed to give the best quality but they do fit 2 10" speakers in a club cab very nicely.

I saw that you compared the bass between 2 - 10" mtx speakers and 1 - 8" JL and I gave my opinion. Put 2 - 10" JL speakers in that box of yours and let me know how much better it sounds. Again, this is my opinion. You gave your opinion and you are intitled to it. I didn't dog your opinion until you started dogging mine now did I?

well, I had 3 jl 10w6's and they rocked! My bud had 3 jl 8w6's on a similar amp and they rocked great for 8's

I think it is hard to compare 2 10's to 1 8, but I do think JL makes better speakers, IMHO

WELL AFTER SELLING (and competing with) THEM BOTH THE JL IS HANDS DOWN A BETTER SUB.(SORRY LOYD IVY)AND EVEN THOUGH THEY ATTEMPTED TO COPY A JL SERIES WOOFER WITH THE BLACK GOLDS...SORRY. AND THE THUNDER FORMS MAY BE GREAT FOR THOSE ON A BUDGET THE FIBERGLASS OF A STEALTH BOX DOES NOT FLEX AND BELCH LIKE A TUPPERWARE PLASTIC THUNDER FORM. AND BESIDES MTX DOES NOT OFFER A BOX THAT REPLACES THE CENTER SEAT CUSHION ON A 60/40/60 DAKOTA THAT WILL WORK EVEN ON A QUAD CAB BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE TO FIT BEHIND THE SEAT.(AND IT IS ALSO ALMOST THEFT PROOF BECAUSE IT BOLTS INTO THE SEAT)
