Message: depends,2wd or 4wd,towing package or not etc etc
its either a 904 or 727,
if you get under the truck, looking at the trans pan, pass side ware the drip stick goes in,if it has a bulges out there then its a 727,
if it is a straight sided pan there its a 904

Message: The tranny is definately a 727 torqueflite and you need 3-4" of lift to clear the fenders. I had the same year ramcharger and that's pretty much the what it takes for 33's. You might be able to get away with putting add-a-leafs front and rear but it'll be a tight fit. I also had some axles laying around with 3.73 gears and that seemed to be great for mixed trail and street driving. That is compared to the stock 3.21's. Hope this helps. Oh yeah the edelbrock cam and intake set for the 318 works wonders for that motor realy wakes it up. Headers are also inexpensive for those trucks. Good luck.
