Subject: New wheels grinding IP: Logged
Message: I just put new 18 inch wheels & rubber on my dak, and I noticed the back left wheel seems to be making a noise when I turn right. I got under the truck and looked while someone shook the truck from side to side and I noticed the wheel/drum seems to be moving and the axle does not. The noise is like a grinding sound and only happens when the truck is in a right turn, it goes away when the truck goes straight for a while.
Am I low on diff additive? Could I have a problem with the bearing or could it be the wheel is not mounted directly to the hub because of the balancing wheights on the drum?
I have had the wheels off and looked and did not see any leaking from the axle and I did re-mount the wheels with a tq wrench set at 110inlbs. the brakes looked fine, and I dont have any vibration from the rear at all which make me think the drum is not out of round.
Any help here would be appreciated much.
On another note I was told by my aligment guy that my upper control arm bushings on the right were shot. So a 39.99 alignment turned into a 273 dollar escapade.

Message: Sorry I meant foot pounds, I was in a hurry yesterday.
I found the problem that was making the noise. The brake drum was dragging on the edge of the brake shoes. The shoes have a little edge on them that fits into the edge of the drum.
The main deal was the balancing weights on the drum itself, there were six weights on that cheap ass factory drum and they were all on one side, thus making the wheel not completely flush against the drum. With the wheel not flush against the drum I did not have a good solid mount and that was actually pulling the drum out of round and when I put a load on that wheel the edges of the shoes would drag.
Long story short I got a new aftermarket hubs without weights on them (better made/better balanced) and the problem was solved.
