Subject: Changing diff. fluid- how long for RTV? IP: Logged
Message: I just re-made my gasket out of Mopar RTV but don't know how long to wait until I fill up the rear-end again. Is it an hour like most other RTV silicones? Can I drive the truck after that too?

Message: I did mine and probably did not even wait an hour. It did not leak, so on the safe side, go ahead and wait an hour. After it is filled with diff juice, then it is ready to drive. There is no pressure in the diff.

Message: A couple of hours is usually all it needs. I generally let it sit overnight before use.

Message: know they print the instructions right there on the tube?
It's a safety feature. If you can't find the instructions, the tube is missing, too.
Keeps you from screwing things up.

Message: I usually wait as long as it takes to torque the bolts back down. most times its anaeobic..meaning it hardens without the presence of oxygen, so it doesn't matter. I just wouldnt drive it right away, but have turned out trucks in less then 30 minutes doing a fluid swap at the shop I work at and haven't had any issues (comebacks) yet.
