Subject: Trans Shift Question
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 94 Dak with V6 97,000. After drive short time trans does not want to shift. The engine will rev up quite a bit (no slipping) and eventually make a hard shift.
Havent gone to tranny shop yet as afraid they will say trans needs rebuild(which it may)
Does this in 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Other times if I put trans in neutral and then back to drive it will cause it to shift.
Does this make sense to anyone??? Is the trans going south??
Thanks,

Don

I just bought an 05 quad cab slt. Had 10 miles on it. At 14 miles it started having severe shifting problems. Drove straight back to the dealership. Turns out the RPM sensor on the driveshaft was junk. They replaced the sensor, now runs fine.

Don: how old is your tranny fluid, and is the level correct? Does it look brownish or smell burnt?

I checked the level and seems correct. Fluid red but maybe not bright red but also not burnt looking.
I purchased the truck used 4 years ago and now has 97,000 on it had 59M when I bought it.

It seems when cold shifts fine most of the time and then starts to not want to go from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th then when it does it slams a bit.. Then other times shifts right through all gears nice and easy.

I probably dont want to accept that it needs rebuild but just cant afford it now. Lots going on.. I thought abour trying some type of trans additive but hedging on that.
thanks

Any update on this?

I have the same year and setup with a VERY similar problem.

I'm considering putting a TPS in it this weekend as I have seen several posts claiming that the hard shifts can be caused by a TPS going south.

My 97 3.9 tranny went out the same way at 82,000 miles. It did need a rebuild. My friend did the work and put a new torque convertor while it was out.
