To all of you on the board...

Adios! I've finally had it in frustration with the brakes and other little issues like overheating while towing in my 2000 Dakota so it's gone - traded it in for a real truck that I won't have these kinds of problems with - 2005 Dodge RAM 2500 with the Cummins 600. The Dakota's size was nice but its propensity for eating brakes and its inability to tow in hot weather made it useless to me.

So long toy - hello truck. Now for an Edge system and Gibson exhaust and POW. A sleeper to dust those pesky "Fart Can" imports.

No problem, amigo. The reality is that the Dakota is a very light duty vehicle (notice I didnt' say "truck"). Chrysler just hasn't got the details right. There is no need to "live with" and accept less than value for the money spent.

Sounds like you only had a six in your truck - not really fair to slam the truck for your choice of engine. My '00 tows 5000 lbs in hilly terrain in the heat with no problems. Sure my friend's diesel will tow more, but don't you know diesels are notorious for being tough on brakes too ?

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

huh?

diesels are noisy not like a good gas engine exhoust they sound like $h!t have fun with you 40,000 dollar truck its amazing that it would haul more than a dakota humm maybe 10 to 15thousand dollar differnce! maybe i sould have bought a deisel no wait why spend that on something i dont need! a dakota is nothing but a flat out truck to compare it to a deisel is stupid we should compare your truck to a big rig since your in a different playing field i bet them 18 wheeler laugh at your little toy deisel!!

at least it's a dodge, and they are nice trucks. sorry your dakota didn't do it for you, but i highly doubt that saying it's not a "truck", as you put it, is a smart way of thinking. of course the HD will tow more and is bigger, but you just said that the biggest midsize truck in the market wasn't a truck. not too logical, since it can outtow, outwork, and outplay the other midsizes and even hold it's own against a few fullsizes. the dakota was supposed to be a smaller version of the ram for the people who wanted plenty of power and a workhorse without having the bigger truck. but like i said, congrats on the 2500, but don't bash other dodge owners, we all eat rice ;-)

The dakota isnt a towing truck if you need to tow buy a full size truck......the dakota is good to haul around a jet ski or atv something small and light

Tell that to those of us who tow just fine!

Sure I tow about a thousand Lbs less than one of my buddy's who tows his ATV's with his Cummin's, but I can still pass HIM on the hills! And not overheating either.

I'm probably towing 3,000 lbs each Dune trip. Not even near my full capacity.
others here tow even more all the time!

maybe you needed to flush your coolant system. after all its 5 years old. maybe one prob with your overheating. I never heard a dakota with a overheat problem. I strike this one up to operator error. but he may have a V6 or maybe even a 4 banger inthere. did they still have 4 bangers in the 00 trucks.

but to say the dak isnt a truck is just plain stupid. I can do things in my dak that I wouldnt even dream of doing in my ranger. but I hope you enjoy your diesel. I think he will be be back in here in a few months complaining about the same things.

If you needed a truck to tow with why didnt you go just straight to a 2500 instead of buying a dakota
