Subject: HVAC Problem, Wanted to share this... IP: Logged
Message: Well, without much surprise my heater blower quit again. It started with my heater barely putting out any air unless set for high or super high. On the fastest setting the blower would make a noise or drone, as if the motor was buring out or rubbing against something. This stared at about 50k miles. As of today 62k miles, the blower just quit completely, EXCEPT on the highest setting. I have no low, no medium, no high, just hurricane speed. The drone still exists. Anyone have this problem before and what is it going to cost me to have this fixed?

Message: Resistor is open. Cheap part, may be a little hard to get at. It's usually up under the dash near the blower motor.
Resistor may have blown due to the fan binding and drawing too much current, so you may want to get in there and see if the blower fan can turn easily.

Message: Cheap resistors. They're up in the blower housing for a reason. So the fan can blow air across them to keep them cool. Doesn't work sometimes, though, as you found out.
