Subject: Help with dakota brakes IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1988 dodge dakota. I had a wheel cylinder go out a few days ago. I replaced both sides at the same time. I tried bleeding the brakes but could not get them to come up. I put a new master cylinder on as well, still they wont pump up. I am bleeding from right rear , to left rear , to the height sensing proportioning valve, to right front, to left front. This truck does not have antilock brake since it is pre 90. I need some help please. Thanks in advance

Message: Did you bleed the master cylinder before you installed it?
Have you tried a good old-fashioned gravity bleed?

Message: Yes i bleed the mastercylinder. The starnge thing is if you pump them and release the peddle it comes bubbling back in the mastercylinder in just 1 reservior . I have never seen brakes do that. Any ideas?

Message: Sounds like you might not be bleeding the brakes fed by that reservoir for long enough to get that air all the way through.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: I have about 16 hours total in bleeding these brakes. I get the backs to clear it is the front and one of the bleeders off the height sensing proportioning valve i get nothing but air with little fluid. It is like i am pumping air in to the front part of the system. I have no leaks and nothing loose.I was wondering if the hydraulic system control valve could have went bad ? If so could that pump air to the front?
