 Subject: Weird Towing Problem

Last summer I was towing my boat (19ft Caravelle approx. 3500lbs) with my 99 5.2L SLT. The Dakota did not come with the towing kit.
I added a trailer hitch and installed the wiring. Whenever I tow the boat after about 20 miles I get a burning smell. I looked and noticed that my powersteering resevoir (SP) was overflowing. It only overflows a little, but still noticable.
Anyone have any poinions as to why this is happening?
BTW, I replaced the clutch fan and still the same thing happening.

It's hard to tell... where is the smell coming from and what does it smell like?
It could be overheated brakes, burning oil, something electrical or maybe even burning plastic/rubber. It may have even been something that got on the exhaust when u were launching the boat and burning off after driving for awhile.

I know the smell is coming from the burnt power steering fluid. I can see that it has overflowed when I get home and open the hood.

It's probably soming fronm the tranny, without a cooler, you have an auto right?

i remember my old man having a problem kinda like that.he seemed to think it was somthng to do witha a transmision cooler.but that was a chev,so i didnt help him.lol
