its actualy the orriginal part, i remember something wierd about when i took it off last year and i can't figure which way its suposed to go. I put it in multiple positions but the way im pretty sure it goes the bolt holes don't line up. If anyone could lower there spare and take a peek i would really appriciate it. My spares been laying in the bed of my truck for over a year now. Thanks

Wait a minute! Do you want to mount your lovely wench (in that case, we all want to see pictures!), or are you installing a winch, or do you just want to see how to winch the spare tire into place (I eat lots of chips and dip).

If I remember correctly, you have several sections of the tool that you have to snap together. On end is squared off - you put the 'T' handle on this end. The other end goes through the hole in the bumper to the hoist mechanism on the spare and just hoist it down and up. I think that end may look like a hook.

Gooberlog,
Haven't had a chance to pull the spare off my Dak, but I have the Factory Service Manual. Looks like the winch is sort of "D" shaped, the rounded part fits up into a slot in the frame and the flat part of the "D" faces down. Two bolt holes on the flat part of the "D" shape are toward the rear of the truck. Bolts go straight up. Also looks like there's a tab across the opposite side of the flat part of the winch. This tab faces the front of the truck and fits up over the edge of the slot as you position it before bolting.
I think that you also need to attach the extension rod to the winch before putting the winch on the truck. Looks like there should be a clip that holds the ext. rod to the winch.
Hope this helps (sorry, but it's just too cold outside to pull the baby seat out of the back seat- so I can get to the jack/winch handle & drop the tire).

the spare tire wrench on an extended cab gen III does not mount anywhere near the spare tire, it mounts under the rear seat with the jack. and has a small case that all the (3) parts fit into. the jack does not fit into the case only the parts of the wrench.

Actualy, i think Daknblk under stands what i'm talking about, The crane under the truck that lifts or lowers the spare tire. I know where the tools are located.

My spare tire cable snapped the other day, dropping my tire on the road. These spare tire winches are very hard to find. I've looked at all the local junk yards with no luck. Does anyone know where these can be purchased new?
