APS Precision's web site is saying that they will have a shift kit for the 45rfe within 30 days. Stay tuned...

'bout time somebody did this!

I've never liked the long, sloooow shifts of the 45RFE as Dodge chose to set it up for the trucks. My wife's dearly-departed '99 Jeep GC had this transmission too, and it shifted nice and firm without being abrupt. After I first bought this truck, I wondered if the trans might have a problem, but they all seem this way.

I know the 'kota weighs a bunch more than a WJ, but is such a lazy shift really necessary?

I'm tuned...

If this is true than this is WICKED news. I"ve got major lag going into third at the track with my 2000 Dakota with the Kenne Bell. I've wanted to try the torque managment signal thing but i'm apprehensive, don't want to blow the tranny. Got a web sit for them?? APS that is.

Looks like they're sourcing this from Transgo, based on the part numbers.

To my limited knowledge, I'd think this would be a chip change, since this trans is electronically controlled. It'll be interesting to see if any valve body changes are needed for it.

I hope it's not a chip change. I've already had my computer "burned" by kenne bell. Not able to change that.

I hoping for an electronics change too. I'd rather not go throught the hassle/mess of opening up the tranny pan.

They keep mentioning "reprograming" on theri website so based on that it seems to me that it may be some sort of in between add on chip like the Jet chip is. I guess we won't really know until it is released though.

The shift points are selected by the TCM, not hydraulically. So it's logical that it's possibly just a chip change unless there's a pressure/flow restriction somewhere in the valving.

As far as I know, the TCM (trans) and PCM (engine) are two separate processors, although they do share some parameters (throttle opening, manifold pressure, engine speed, etc).

I believe they were combined for the last few years; I know they were still seperate in '00. Will depend on the year of your 4.7. Was it '02 when this changed ?

There would be no "valve body" shift kit for this tranny.

Mine shifts pretty hard but I don't have any boost on mine. I've had tranny's where I had shift kits making it bark the living sh*t out of the tires. And I've had stock tranny's that sucked crap. this 5-45RFE seems pretty good for stock to me. It shifts pretty quick in my truck.

When my truck was fairly new i tried messing with the signal for what I thought was the TCM control. Mine happens to be internal but whatever was on that wire did change logic levels (0 or 12VDC) during a shift. I messed with interupting the signal (changing WHEN it changed states) and one time I got it to bark the PISS out of my tires. I mean it jerked HARD and barked them LOUDLY! But, when it would do that it set the check engine light and went into limp mode :-( Would then start in 2nd gear and only upshift to 3rd until i would reset the PCM.

The only real mod would be some crazy timing adjustment probabloy in the PCM/TCM.
bet that kit doesn't work on the internal TCM if it's an ADD ON part.

On our other Chrysler we don't hav any more, I had a switch next to the shifter that turned off the Torque Management Request.
