Hi folks, sorry to start a new thread on this topic that's been talked about so many times, but I checked the recall thread and couldn't find what I need to know.
Like so many posters here, I'm getting bad noises from the front end of my 01, 2wd Dak. Popping sounds along with a few others.
I took it in about 12,000 kms back, before the 3 year warranty expired, and had it checked out and was told there was nothing wrong with it and those noises are normal.
Just what I expected to hear from Chrysler.
I asked why, if it's so normal, why doesn't it do it on new vehicles and naturally I got a smart mouth answer.
Anyways, I heard on a Toronto newscast about a month ago that Chrysler was recalling Daks because of the ball joint problem but didn't here what year was affected.
I never received a notice so I called the dealership up today and the first question he asked was what year my truck was. I told him 01 and he immediately said it didn't include me...naturally.
Anyways, can someone please tell me if the 01 Daks do indeed have a recall on ball joints, and would anyone have a service bulletin # for it ??
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

no '01's don't fall under the recall but. you now have a 10yr / 100k mile warranty on the upper balljoints.

01's are covered. But if I remember only the 4X4's were recalled. I had a similar popping sound, that disappeared when dodge replaced the ball joints. Before the replacement (under recall), the dealer said there was nothing wrong...

Hey the 01 did get covered. My 01 RT is covered and well they wont fix it unless they are bad. It has the extended warranty.

I got a letter in the mail recalling mine last month. Its go's into dodge sometime next week to have them replaced.

Lew, call your local dealer. I got a letter from DC basically saying the '00's & up that were NOT part of the recall get a 10yr/100k warranty on the upper ball joints ONLY!

I talked to my dealer in Toronto yesterday and of course he denies everything. He claims there has NEVER been a problem with ball joints on 01's or before.
I even mentioned this site and all the threads about ball joint problems over the years and was basically told none of you guys have any idea what your talking about....sorta the answer you'd expect.
Anyways, I think I'll try and get a call straight into DC and see if I can get any info.
Would anybody by chance know who I'd contact to get some info on this ??

what a sh!tty dealer. Go find somewhere else to have your truck serviced. And what has been said is true. The 4x4 models have an actual recall on them where you bring the truck in if the bj's are fine oir not and get them replaced. on the 2wd trucks the elected to extend the warranty to 10/100 so if during that time your balljoints fail they will be replaced free of charge. i would call the 800 number for chrystler customer service, it has been posted on here a million or so times, a small search should turn it up. call them and let them know exactly who you are talking with and how you are bieng treated. They should have the problem fixed pretty quickly, or atleast i hope.

OK, thanks guys, I'll give em a call.
Here's a good one for you, shows you the level of competence we get at some dealerships.
Two years ago, my truck (3.9) all of a sudden started running really rough. Backfiring, pinging, coughing etc. I took it into the dealer the same day and explained the problem.
Without even looking at the truck, the advisor told me it was because I use Sunoco gas.
I told him that I NEVER use Sunoco and he told me I must be mistaken ?????
Anyways, I told him to get a mechanic to look at it and when he was done, the mechanic said it was just the computer had jumped out of whack for whatever reason. He reset everything and the truck ran great again.
I went to the advisor to see what he had to say and he wouldn't admit he was wrong, even after the mechanic explained the problem to him. What a jerk. That was the last time I ever used that dealership for anything.
Anyways guys, thanks again for your help and I'll let you know what DC has to say.

Lew I work for a dodge dealer in north carolina. Email me the last 9 digits of vin and i can get the report on your vehicle. This will tell if you have the recall or the extended 10/100000 mile warranty and some of the 2000 models are under recall.

if i wanted to go through the trouble of walking out my truck i would. Rather then that i just asked my cousin who is a service advisor for gmc/hummer. he said you are full of shyt and that nothing personal can come from the vin. He informed me that it is just vehicle details engine type, tranny bla bla. Your an absolute moron, and i was correct

Keep in mind, folks, that our friend Lew is in Canada. The recall was forced by the NHTSA, a US governmental agency. The recall might not apply up in the land of moose and eh?...........
