Subject: Bought a 2001 & have newb questions

Hi, I'm new.
Bought a 2001 Dakota 4x4 4.7L manual yesterday, and about crap myself every time I drive it. :)
Kick-Ass Truck!

I've come from a VW background where I did all of the repairs and mods myself. Truck enthusist is a whole new world to me.

Question #1.
Are there service manuals available for these trucks? If so, which one is the best?

I figure I'd better learn all I can about the way the truck works before I start messing with it. (Can't help myself, it's in my nature)

Rather than reading 200,000 posts about 4.7L mods, I'll ask my questions here.

Question #2
What are some of the simple engine mods I might be missing out on? I'm sure the truck is stock as can be. (A wheat farmer used to drive it) Are there some simple things I can go out and do in my front yard to either get more power or better fuel consumption? (I know, why did I get a V8 if I care about that :) Just thought I'd ask)

The truck is a 'Sport', so it came pretty plain as far as options.

Question #3
Where might I find a stock CD player? Mine only has a cassette player. Ebay? Do I want a stock CD player? (I'm old (35) and don't really care about ultra high quality sound anymore.. just something to play CDs)

Question #4
I would like to install the factory over-head compass/temperature/fuel milage/etc console. How much work is involved? Is it a simple plug-in thing, or will I be needing to run wires all over the truck to get to the various sensors? Is there something else that is better? (My wife's Caravan has one, and I dig it)

Alright, thanks, that's enough for now.

Congrats on your new truck. The best service manuals are the ones from Dodge. You can get them at techauthority.com. Simple engine mods on the 4.7 are an aftermarket throttle body for some more flow, cams out of the Jeep HO motor, and a decent exhaust. eBay is a great place to find a stock cd player - cheap too usually. Last but not least, it's a major pain to retrofit the overhead console. Check out my site at bionicdodge.com if you have a chance.
