Message: You made me go look. The load capacity on the Frontier and the Tacoma are around 1300 to 1400 lbs. My RC Dak is 1850. I couldn't even pick up my regular 1200 lb load of feed in one of those, let alone the 1500 load I do on occasion without overloading. I never overload in the bed or the tongue weight. Too hard on the suspension and the front gets to light for steering. I like being able to steer.

Message: Just depends. If you want a good off-road truck then skip the new D-body Dakota. If you like a V6 with the power of a V8 you can't beat the new DPHC 4.0V6 from Toyota. But if you need more power for towing. Then I recomend you get the Dakota with a H.O 4.7L V8..
But when it comes to working your trucks. Both are about equal on Hauling/towing.

Message: Dodge exagerated their GVWR on all their SUV's and light trucks for years. They out and out lied when it came to the Dakota R/T and had to buy several back when the numbers were proven to be false.
There is a difference between real world, safe towing and "look ma, my truck can pull a house" type of pointless showmanship.

Message: From what I've seen and experienced I'd say just the opposite. Dakota's are underrated if anything. The R/T was rated at about 2000 lbs for towing probably because it was set so low. The SRT10 with all that power also has no towing capacity to speak of. Neither one is a work truck in any case which is my basic grip with the Tacoma's and Frontiers compared to the Dak with the heavy load capacity and 3.92 rear end. The new one is over 7000 lbs towing vs the 6700 lb max for the GenIII's.

Something you WONT see being done by a tacoma!!!
That's a RAM of course, but a Dak could do the job too.
I took this pic today. I drive a company vehicle all day long. I NEVER see Taco's or Frontiers doing any real WORK around here!
STS said "But when it comes to working your trucks. Both are about equal on Hauling/towing."
That doesn't make sense with the rest of your post when you said get a V8 for towing.
Plain and simple, a V6 reved up to make equal or better advertised power ratings just WONT pull a load like a V8 especially a GOOD V8 like the 4.7 which has good flat response throughout the power band!
The 4.7 will GRUNT a load at under 3K RPM's yet sounds damn good when you kick it down and pass someone to the sound of 6K RPM's.
But you can't run a engine at max RPM's to attempt to pull a load you need a REAL truck for!
When towing there's no replacement for displacement! I bet even unloaded a Dakota would still accelerate as good as the lighter taco's any day on the street. Maybe still better. The '03 taco's were not even a challenge :P

Message: If you think Toyota's are perfect, then you're sadly mistaken. Even the '05 Tacoma now has a parking brake recall. So, even Toyota's have problems too, even though some posters on this board seem to be in denial of it. Here's the link:
http://forums.gminsidenews.com/showthread.php?t=11419
Unfortunately, the Toyo-Honda-Nissans don't get the recall publicity that GM-Ford-DCX get in the new media. I have yet to hear anything in my local news media about the recent recall of the Honda Accords, however the Ford and GM recalls are trumpted in both the local and national news. This bias contributes to the negative perception of the quality of domestic cars and trucks.

Message: Oh poor persecuted domestic manufacturers.
I weep so for thee.
It must be some global conspiracy to bankrupt GM, Ford and Germany's DaimlerChrysler. Wait DaimlerChrysler is German, not American. I guess the conspiracy theory is out the window since DCX is German and not American.
Actually, GM is doing well bankrupting itself with poor business deals (giving Fiat US$2B for....nothing) and Ford just can't get it right anymore, except for maybe the F150 which is still the King and maybe the new Mustang which should be a hit.
Which leaves DCX. They're German so who cares?

Message: Yes they did but they will fall into the classic "lets make 50 trillion and satisify all the demand for them" which means that 1) DCX will end up losing money and 2) the resale market will be zero.
If domestic manufacturers would bring their DS numbers more in line with off shore producers (15-20 instead of 60-90) this whole debate would be moot. Resale value would remain high and DCX could stop using cheapo ball joints and brake rotors.
The Japanese aren't necessarily building better cars and trucks, they're just doing it smarter.

I cut eyes and went grrrrr then laughed about it.

Message: Open your brothers hood of his Dak and make sure it was really a V8 LOL. Although it sounds kind of believable especially if you swapped drivers.
Unloaded Horsepower to wieght ratio it's posible V6 to V8 trucks. What's funny is some idiots are saying a Taco could do the same job (hauling in bed or towing) as a V8 Dak. that's B.S.
Is yours a QC taco and is his 2WD or 4WD QC?
Mine is a 4WD QC Dak and I still can pull most 2WD trucks. Maybe mine just runs good?
