My 96 V6 Dakota will turn over, but will only run if I keep my foot on the gas. As soon as I take my foot off the gas pedal it dies. Someone told me it sounds like a fuel line problem. But I thought this forum may be a little more informed.
Can you help?

how old is the battery?? believe it or not that could be the problem even if it cranks.

Allie, "iac" stands for Idle Air control. I have had this problem with my other truck. If you look at your engine on the throttle body somewhere, you will find a sylenoid piece connected to it, with wires coming from it. If it is an iac problem, you should be able to jimmy it by tappin on the sylenoid. If this changes your idle, then you know that is the problem. It costs about $75 for my old mazda, not sure what it costs for your truck. Until I could replace it, I just carrie da hammer in my truck. When it acted up, I just tapped it with the hammer and it started working just fine. But better get it replaced if that is the problem.

I'll agree with IAC...although it also could very well be the battery like mentioned above. Is the battery pretty old? Daks have a tendency to act really screwing when the battery is going bad.

Thank you everyone, it was the IAC. It was kind of funny, in order to get it to the shop my friend taped a dime to the throttle to prevent it from stalling.
