Subject: Wanted: Cheapest locking bedcover IP: Logged
Message: I've been digging around the net for awhile now, but can anyone point me to a very low-cost lockable cover for my '99 Dakota Sport truck bed (preferably under $500)?
I'll be moving across country and will probably only use the cover once (then sell it again), so I just need the bare minimum that least offers a minimal amount of security.

Message: Actually the plywood is tempting :) It's gotta lock though.
It doesn't matter if it's a bed cap or tonoue cover....

The only problem is that you're gonna have to drill for it.
If you're using the truck to haul your junk across country, tho, you'll probably be better off with a cap- you can carry a lot more stuff that way. You'd be surprised at how many things don't fit under a hard tonneau.

Message: Dave: Are you sure I would have to drill with the Checkmate cover? It's the cheapest cover I've seen so far.

Message: I owned a Checkmate cover - you have to mount the quick-release hinges, the tonneau latches, and the gas shock mounts with screws directly into the sheet metal - it is best if you drill a pilot hole first.
At $349 plus shipping and coming in black or white gelcoat (paint is extra) you can't beat the price, but they are not as sturdy as the other hard tonneaus - it's a simple foam core with two sheets of fiberglass matting surrounded by an aluminum frame.
