When I owned my Chevy there was a recall for faulty front brakes. I went to the local dealer and was told there was a six month waiting list for the repairs. It's not just Dodge, dude. There's a bazillion Dakotas and they all need the repair. There's only so many mechanics.
I put Moog's on mine in the driveway. 2 hour job.
'02 Sport 4.7 auto, Gibson exhaust, homebrew K&N cold air, 275/60 BFG Radial T/A's, Infinity CD w/Pioneer & Infinity spkrs & Kenwood powered sub.

Dodge can't just make 600,000 replacement parts appear out of thin air! let alone the time to replace all at once, dealerships have to do other work too. They're not going to stop all the other work they have to do just to replace ball joints that might not need to be replaced right "NOW". Think of all the explaining they would have to do to other customers. I don't know any auto maker that would do that.

when i first bought my dodge it was clean now it needs to be washed.....i should SUE Dodge for not making my truck paint dirt repellent.....

Ford is recalling even more F150's just because of a cruise control switch that gets overheated form being powered 24/7 or some sheet i read on MSN last week.
It can happen to anyone. Just some get more publicity than others.
Any car has TSB's and the such if you go look them up. Nothing is perfect.

Lets collectively put together a list of other "dangerous" automakers and their recalls on their "deadly" products so that Kat can see it's everywhere.
Auto makers are no different from carseat makers, crib makers and toy makers.
They make things as cheap as they sensibly can to improve their profit margins.PERIOD.
MY first entry: Ford/Firestone had exploding tires on their Explorers.
I guess Fords are off Kat's list now too!

I bet all the wheels that did fall off on their daks/durangos had fair clunking warnnigs like all of us and didnt nkow what it was / deal with it. Its stupidity that makes japanese cars sell more and more. I beleive all cars, even american can last just as long as any other, as long as you know whats gonig on and maintenence check ups/knowledge. Maybe a honda can run longer without the oil being changed than an american truck. Jesus, I work with 2 girls that beelived all the maitenece needed was putting has in their car.. one never changerd her oil in her ford probe and it was bone dry when i checked it, and it started knocking a few weeks later and crapped... she then got a kia and it needed new tires.... she didnt even know tires wear out...Its freakin stupidity that causes this crap and I hate it.... yet to make it worse stupid people dont think they are and that a car should last forever some how with no attenetion, then they get mad when it fails and its their fault yet they point damn fingers... Sorry for my miss typings ( spellings) cuz i gotta hury.. Oh and by the way, sicne your car looks pretty that must bee nthem balljoints are gonna last long hunny!

Kat, im a automotive supplier and heres how it works. first when there are enough complaints on a certain problem, its intensly investigated. which could take months. next step is for the supplier of this part to eliminate the problems of their faulty part. once thats done all the thousands and possibly millions of parts the dealer and supplier have in stock cannot be used, there scrapped. not only does the supplier have to replace all the faulty parts but also keep up with the production of thier current orders. so yes there is a shortage.its not always the dealers fault.

I just re-inspected the ball joints on my '95. They don't need replaced yet. That's what you guys get for buying NEW stuff. Ha! Ha!
Seriouslly, take the truck to an independent, get a better part, save the receipt, contact dodge about the reimbursement. if they have any issues tell them you had them inspected and they were bad and needed replacing before you could schedule an appointment at the dealership.
there's only 4 rules to live by
1. beat to fit, paint to match
2. shop around
3. you can't effectively play the game if you don't know all of the rules.
4. a little fudging never hurt anyone.

KAT you dont think the rice burner you are going to buy wont have probs if not more severe than what the daks have? I know I live in a small town and I oculd of had it done that day. now if you think your worried. I was told that the daks made in january 2003 and on isnt covered in the recall. well guess what my truck was amde in january 2003. now I have to worry about did they use left over parts from 2002 on my truck. or was my truck being made before jan 2003 and was side lined due to probs and wasnt finished untill january 2003. so who should worry more lol. I am sure if yo ugoto a small town dodge place you could prob get it done in a few days. if you cant wait put in moogs BJ's. I know when I get the money I am chunking my factory joints and getting moogs.

Kat, You are going to buy a Jap car? Look at the ball joints and you will probably see " MADE IN CHINA " stamped on them. Half that Dakota is probably made over seas and assembled here. As far as the dealer taking a long time getting your parts, they have to make sure they don't get another batch of bad parts. Damnear Chrysler makes the suppliers garentee that the parts are good. Oh dear, who do I blame now ????
