Subject: Remote Start With Factory Remote IP: Logged
Message: Don't know if this is the right place for this but I figured it was the closet to the topic. Anyway, I have been trying to connect an aftermarket add on remote starter to the factory alarm and keyless entry on a 2003 R/T. According to the instructions, it is possible. I got everything working but the remote start requires (3) one second negative pulses to trigger the process. If I touch the trigger wire for the remote start to ground (a bolt on the truck) three times, it starts. Problem is, I cannot find a wire in the factory wiring harness that will do this. The instructions say to hook it to the factory lock wire and then press the lock button on the factory remote 3 times in a row. I have tried the wire that they gave me in their wiring diagram but it does not work. Has anyone ever done this, or know what wire I need to get the negative pulse? I have tried several different wires and cannot seem to find the right one. Any advice would be appreciate. Thanks!

Message: This won't help your problem, but it might save your truck...
I read somewhere recently where car thieves have been targeting cars being warmed up in the driveway. I thought it was going on somewhere in Canada (Toronto?). The thieves would case out nice cars EARLY in the morning and steal them after the owner started them in the driveway (by remote or by going out, starting the car and then going back in the house). I don’t know if the owners were leaving them unlocked or if the thieves were actually breaking into the cars. I remember reading something about the alarms being disabled when the cars were remotely started. Just an FYI (CYA).

Message: I worked with a guy once who had custom silverado (I think it was southern comfort) and his door could not be unlocked when the vehicle was running. If he wanted to let his truck warm up, he had to leave the door unlocked. Not sure if this was a silverado or custom thing. I know on my wife's grand am, the electric door lock on the drivers door does not work if it's open and the vehicle is running (not tried other doors yet).
somethings to think about...

Message: Hook the "coil side" of a 12 volt relay up to the door lock solenoid. Run a ground wire to one of the "switch sides" of the relay. Hook the other "switch side" to the remote starter. Pressing the lock or unlock button 3X should close the relay 3X and start the truck. Relay coils are not polarity sensitive.
I wouldn't worry about someone stealing your truck when started remotely. They won't get far without keys (steering wheel lock). Most systems shut down when the brake is applied anyway. If you're worried, press the lock button to start(keeping the truck locked).

Message: One more note...
If you can find the door solenoid unlock wires, one should work (I'm not sure of the colors). One will be negative when pressing the unlock button and the other will be negative when pressing the lock button. If one doesn't work try the other wire (or press the other button to test).

Message: The starter is a Crimestopper RS 901 add on unit. It was not too bad getting everything else to work, except triggering it from the factory remote. If you do decide to get one, definetly go to the bulldog security website and get the wiring color codes for your truck. This helped alot and was 100% accurate. I got it off E-bay and it was around $60 I think.

Message: I have the Bulldog starter on My '00 QC using the Dodge key fob and I found the best wire was the lock wire from the body control module. The wire directly from the lock did not do the trick. I don't remember the color off of the top of my head, but it took some time in the FSM to find it. It was different from the one in the Bulldog diagram. I think the '03's have different wiring.
