Subject: IAS shocks installation help IP: Logged
Message: Ok I just bought some new Edelbrock IAS performance shocks for my 99 dakota CC 4x4. I have never installed shocks before and am a total newbie doing this. However my friend is pretty confident in stuff like this and wants to help alot and do it at his house ( has a floor jack and everything needed) So 2 people would make it a bunch easier I assume. ... So.. how easy is it? haha. Does the stuff come w/ instruction etc? Just wanna know any hints/tips or problems that way occure... They come with poly urathane bushings, and I got new poly bushings for my leaf springs since they were shot, and was also wondering what lube i should use of the polyurathane stuff? anythnig specific since the bushings are made from that material? Thanks

Message: Good Choice on the IAS.
Rear: You will need jack stands. 1st. remove the spare tire, it will allow easier access to the upper bolts. 2nd. Jack the truck up by placing the jack under the rear diff housing. Becareful not to have the jack, jacking on the diff cover. Now place jack stands under the frame of the truck, right in front of the rear wheels. Now lower the rear jack. The wheels should be a little bit above the ground. now, remove the upper and lower bolts. Impact gun makes this job easy. put in the IAS shocks not, put in the upper bolts first. Now use your jack to raise the rear axle until the holes line up for the lower bolts. Put those in and tighten. Your done.
Front: These are a little tougher. Since i didn't have a way of compressing the shockes, it was tough. You will need to do 1 side at a time. Jack your truck up, put a jack stand under the frame, right behind the front wheel. Now you can use your jack to raise or lower the front suspension arm to align the holes during install. You will need a box wrench and just some pliers. That's to hold the shock, so you can get the upper nut off. Now remove the lower bolt. The shock should pull right out. Put in your IAS shock, at this point, i had to use a pry bar to compress it so it would align with the hole. Remember, do not tighten the upper nut until the lower bolt is in place. Once in, your done. Put the front tire back on and your done.
Est. time for rear: 30 min.
Est. time for front: 40 min.
Times include everything from removing the spare, and removing front tire and basically complete. Some younger guys might be faster, but, i know, i did mine right. lol

Message: Wow thank you so much you have no idea how much you have helped. (I take it i gotta remove the front tires for installation, you didnt say to do it but then at the end of the directions you stated to put the tires back on). Thank you much for your help. Oh, btw, does anyone know what lube workes well on polyurathane bushings for the new leaf spring bushings? should i lube the poly bushings on the shocks too?
