Subject: dakota heater IP: Logged
Message: not very auto minded here but my 99 dakota heater takes forever to get even warm, by the time i get to where im going it might start blowing warm air.any suggestions. if thermostat what degree and all that.

Message: What does the engine temp gauge read? By the time the gauge gets to the first hash mark, you should be getting warm air. Once the gauge hits almost half way, the heat is almost nuclear.
If yours isn't doing that, then the problem is in the heater. First, with the heater off check and make sure both heater hoses are about the same temp.
If they are, then it's most likely a problem with the air mix door.
If the gauge never gets past that first hash mark, then the thermostat is probably stuck open. Replace it with a high flow unit.

Message: I had to backflush my heater core after I bought my Dakota. It wasn't putting out much heat at all until the heater core was backflushed.
