Anyone have any pictures of where they mounted a CB? I have a '99 CC 4X4 with 60/40 seats and don't want to obstruct anything...like the pull-out cup holders. Thanks.

:)
when in use, the mic rests on or in the cupholders, otherwise is kept in the glovebox.

Mine's just to the left of Jeff's...and my mic sits in my ash tray at all times, unless I corner hard...then it usually sits on the floor, lol.

Jeff, thanks for the pic, I have been waiting for someone to post some pics of their setup for some time now. Where did you route your coax through the body??

Yeah, Jeff...how did you route yours? I did mine the cheap and easy way. I got a cheapass $10 magnetic antenna and just ran the cable in through the passenger door (if you look it's setup just perfectly to fit an antenna without crunching it at all), behind the seat, up between the seats and into the back of the cb.

under the carpet theres a litle 'door' about the size of 2 thumbnails under the drivers feet area. cut a hole in it for the coax (don't leave sharp edges!). ran thru there to the rear bumper for my first diy antenna mount. after that got trashed in a fenderbender i decided to put away my 102" whip for good. now the coax goes up behind the taillight to the top of the rear bed support pillar (?) that the tailgate closes against. got a mount to sit on the slanted top of that and it pivots the antenna straight up. (yes, i Really need a photo of this)
uses this mount.

looks great, works ok, need to run some ground straps and get a new antenna.

plus, if you're really bored, you can read some of my swr and stereo-interaction problems here.

My 99 Dakota has a manual transmission. I had to mount my CB on the door. It simply would not have worked under the dash because of the 4x4 shifter and the transmission shifter.

Here is a picture...

mounting in the door looks way ghetto man, maybe you should mount it in the center console or under neath the center console, you would still be able to adjust volume, channel etc, plus it would be concealed

What if you actually Mounted it in the door..ran the cable thru the wireharness tube in the jamb and cut the tray in the door to hold the cb straight up. That might not look so bad.

But hey if it works how it is..function and form are good..but if you can only pick one...it should be function.

I've cleaned up the install since then.

It doesn't look quiet so bad now. I still need to hard wire it to the truck though. At the moment, it plugs in through the cigarette lighter plug.

I'll try to run the wiring through the tube in the door a little later. Thanks for the idea.

I almost considered getting a CB for my Dak. would come in handy when off road talking to the others. I used to run them all the time before cell phones but in a large city where I live now it wold just get a lot of static unless you were close to someone.

In the smaller town i gre up in I always had a CB from the time I could drive until I left there 4 yrs ago!
My best install was in my '86 Ram.
It had the metal liner in the cab. Mounted the CB up front above me on the cab roof, whatever. Ran the power wires in between the two layers of metal and down the a-piller. Ran the CB coax between the two layers to the rear of the roof where I pulled the interior light to drill a hole and install a whip antenea.
It worked well and my friends thought it was a nice install compared to what we usually did, which was under the dash.
The mic of course hung on the clip screwed to the side of the CB.

Anyone every played "CB TAG" before???
I was really good at it.

maybe I'll find some old pics. haven't had the truck in almost 10 years.

from a 4x4 club website, explains the basics. can be very fun to play in large areas with lots of people.

Rabbit Hunts are a very enjoyable evening for all who participate.

A Rabbit Hunt is a game of tag using the C.B. Radio signal meeters to triangulate the location of the Rabbit Hiding in a designated hiding area.

The location will be selected during club meetings. The boundaries for the hunt will be chosen by the group during the initial meeting on the night of the event.

The last one to show up to the Rabbit Hunt is the Rabbit for the first hunt. The Rabbit will hide within the designated location boundaries. Once the Rabbit has found a place to hide they will talk on the CB for at least 1 ½ to 2 minutes for people to get a good reading on their signal. Each minute there after the Rabbit will talk about nothing for at least 15 seconds. This will allow enough time for the players to read the signal.

Hiding Rules.

The Rabbit must have two vehicle tires on the pavement at all times. No hiding on the grass or off the paved area. When hiding next to a large building they must be at least 25 feet away from that structure to keep the building from masking the signal.

I mounted mine under the dash like Jeff. Then slipped a piece of metal between the two clips for the visors to hang the mic on. I have a 5 spd and it was too hard to reach over and grab the mic. I have a 4ft. firestik antenna that I mounted sandwiched between my bed rail and my ARE cap (No Drilling needed). Works real well. The coax was fed through the cap, out the front of the bed, under the cab, then up through the drivers door in one of those rubber washer things.

Mounting a cb in the door seems pretty interesting, never even thought of putting it there. It would be a good use of those pockets for something. Especially if you could route the mic cord out of the door and have it come out of the dash somewhere.

Anyway, good luck with your radio.

Mike
