Message: get a U-Joint for your plug socket ratchet, it'll make removal of the drivers side rear plug a lot easier.

Message: this is not ASAP but the previous post is good. And a good set of gloves, keeps your hands from being cut/scraped/bruised as much.
I bought the spark plug socket for my 3/8" ratchet. Even though I have one that came with my socket set, I find it easier than using the 1/2" one.

Message: I used the Autolite 3923 plugs for my 98cc 5.2 4x4
About two bucks a plug from Wal Mart and they run great. May want to check manual for the gap on your truck.

Message: Alot of people on here use the autolights. The 3924 is stock, 3923 is 1 range cooler. I think most people here use the 3923 with the upgraded ignition. If you search, you'll find a ton of posts. Larry from J & J auto has posted alot about this topic. He even recomends a different gap than stock with these plugs.

Message: I just did a tune up using BOSCH wires and Autolite 3923 plugs gapped at .040". The day prior my downstream O2 Sensor went out..putting my gas mileage down to 11.5 from about 14. Now after replacing that and doing the tuneup im only getting 12!?
Shouldnt my MPG increased? Do i need to reset the PCM by disconnecting the negative battery cable? Does it just need a break-in or re-learning period? My old plugs were Autolite 5224..and ive got the 5.9L. Thanks for youre help.

Message: Oh yeah i also added a Poweraid throttle body spacer at the same time..and the old autolite 5224 were gapped at anywhere from .045" - .050".
I know I messed with a lot of stuff at once..not good for diagnosing but..and i had a shop do the O2 sensor since it was cold out, i didnt have time and it was rusted on. The rest i did myself. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Message: I'm not sure what the 5.9L calls for, but I know with the 3.9L's the factory gap is .035 and you should gap the Autolite plugs (platinums, not regulars) at .005 over.
I wouldn't think having your gaps too wide would make your gas mileage suffer that bad though...
Also, try resetting your PCM...it sure wouldn't hurt to try it.

Message: Thanks Josh.. My book says the 5.9L should be gapped at .040..so thats what the new Autolite coppercores are. The old ones appear to be regular autolites also but were all gapped different (ha) between .045-.050. Ill reset it, if that doesnt help ill start replacing plugs with another brand or gap them different.
