Subject: P0420 question IP: Logged
Message: My truck has had this code for a while. I can clear it and it eventually comes back (obviously, because I dont change anything).
I know its "catalyst inefficient"
Neither o2 sensor throws a code, which leads my to believe they are in good shape. The rear one is new.
I have an aftermarket Cat, which I think is the problem. Has anyone else encountered it, and what did you do to fix it?

Message: P-420 = huh huh,,,,it's 4:20! jk. Sorry. I've gone insane w/O2 problems on my Dak. too. I'm sure that's one of the 5+ emissions codes I'm throwing now. If it's not the O2 itself,,double check the connectors for them. I've had water, and oil seep into them before and mess them up.

Message: That code means the cat isn't doing it's job. Thats what cat efficency is all about. I have heard of aftermarket cats doing this on alot of vehicles. Unfortunately, your best bet to get rid of the code is put a factory cat back on.

Message: Thats not really what I wanted to hear, but I figured thats what it was. Good thing is, I have a hypertech that will clear the codes.
