Message: I just got a 1988 3.9l longbed dokata. I got it for 200 bucks. I bought it from my neighbor. he bought it brand new. Apparently all it needs is a fuel pump and a wiper motor to run. Is the pump on the motor or in the tank. what are the strengths and weaknesses of this truck . It looks like new but has an ugly eightys "mirage" pink and blue graphic on the lower rocker panel. How do I get the decal off without disturbing the fly away paint?
great site by the way.

Message: I own an 88 as well. Freaking great truck, but a little on the weak side. I cannot complain after 2 years of owning it after i got it from my grandfather. If ur into customizing, its a great project truck. Ive spent quite a bit on mine but i feel its been worth every penny. The old school 3 piece bullet hole rims look absolutely great on it. If its got an ac make sure its working, if not AND its the compressor thats broken, scrap the entire AC system. Its honestly not worth the cost of fixing it. Ive gone through 3 compressors and it still keeps breaking down. 1988 was a bad year for chysler and their AC systems in my opinion. Oh and one more thing, and this goes for all dakotas; Dakotas ARE NOT gas savers. theyre still bad @ss, but theyre anything but gas savers :-D
Hit me up with an email if u want more info on an '88, cause i know i wouldnt trade mine for the world

Message: What Satakieli said, thier freaking great trucks. My Dad bought his 88 new and I bought it off him 4 years ago. Mine is 4x4 and the 88 is almost bullet proof. Since new all that has been done to it is regular maintenance and replacement of the water pump, breaks, valve cover gaskets and some u-joints, the truck still has the original clutch. I use my truck as daily driver and it is a little under powered but I think I get good gas mileage, 20mpg city/highway.
