Message: OK folks, I know this subject has been beat to death, but I'm having a particular problem on which I need some help from some of you more experienced guys.
I received my notice that I had two vehicles that fit into the recall criteria and called to make appointments for the DC "fix"... They told me to get in line and that "they" would call me when they got the parts. It seems there is a parts shortage and DC sends parts out in small bunches to dealers. Per the service MGR, dealers cannot actively order them.
My problem is that both vehicles ('02 Dakota and '03 Durango 4X4s) are making the noises you folks have discribed in prior posts.
Questions:
Can I have the vehicles fixed with parts I want and get a refund from DC?
If so, what manufacturer of parts are recommended?
Thanks for yoru help.

Message: Contact DC Customer Service and ask them about replacement with non-DC replacement parts (they may be less likely to reimburse since you have received notice). I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you to go ahead, just make sure you maintain proper documentation to mail to them for reimbursement.

Message: So I'm curious if the service manager gave you any reason why they can not order the parts? A problem is a problem regardless if it's covered under a recall or not - how can they not be able to order parts??? And, how can they determine which dealers get the parts? Just because a dealer sells more dakotas or durangos does not mean they service more. There's a certain dealer near me that has horrible service and all of the parts I've got from them have been defective.

Message: JASONB AND DAN M
THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSES. SORRY NOT TO RESPOND BACK MORE QUICKLY, BUT I WAS OUT OF POCKET.
I WILL CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE AS YOU SUGGESTED JASONB AND TRY TO GET A GO AHEAD TO PUT MOOGS ON THE VEHICLES.
CONCERNING WHY THEY CANNOT ACTIVELY ORDER THE PARTS, I'LL TRY TO PASS ON THE SERVICE MANAGER'S INFORMATION. HE STATED THAT DC "FEEDS" THEM (A SMALL DEALER) THE PARTS AND THAT THEY CANNOT ORDER THE PARTS UP FRONT BASED ON CODING IN THE COMPUTER. HE SEEMS A STRAIGHT SHOOTER AND I TEND TO BELIEVE HIM.
AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES AND ADVICE.

Message: Recall parts are often in short supply (vs demand) when a recall first hits the public. DC determines (based on repair histories) which dealerships will require more and which ones require fewer recall kits. As they arrive at the distribution centers, the quantity of parts shipped to individual dealerships is based on the dealer's repair history. They can order all they want, but the shipments are predetermined based on those histories until supply catches up with the demand. This keeps individual dealerships from ordering two months supply while other dealerships can't get any...covered under a recall or not.
