Subject: "Death Flash" Removal That Works
IP: Logged

Message:
I've had the dreader "Death Flash" on my 4.7 for 2 years. The dealer wouldn't/couldn't remove it. I finally found a way to get rid of it.

If you have the "curse" you need to gat a SuperChips Micro Tuner.

I finally received mine 2 weeks ago and installed the "perf" program.

What a difference. My low end power has returned, it revs faster, pulls harder and has a slightly different exhaust note.

I can now pull away from a stop in 2nd gear (5 speed manual) without reving it up. Couldn't do that with the Death Flash!

As it has been very cold here my mileage sucks at the best of times but the added performance is welcome.

Price was reasonable (even after exchange rates).

But what I like best is the ability to change the programs. And did I mention it got rid of the "Death Flash".

Kudos to Superchips. They delivered a product the works!

was a dealer flash to cure idle problems, took away timing and therefore performance, could not be removed.

I don't work for Superchips. Just relating my experience with the Micro Tuner.

It worked for my 2000 Dak. It might work for others.

Death Flashes and Micro Tuner

mike m; As far as I know the Superchip tuner will work on a 3.9. Check out their web site for more info http://www.superchips.com/html/mainpage/index.htm

Jim; If your truck has been to the dealer sometimes they automatically install updates and not tell you. You can look on your PCM to see if they added a sticker with a new part number. I asked for the update and it was very evident after that the truck's low end was softer. The idle speed was higher and it needed more rev's to get moving. Mine is a 5 speed manual.

Doug; I got in on a group buy over at DodgeTalk.com. I think Superchips retail is 465 but look around. I've seen them on e-bay but make sure it's the latest version as they will do the 4.7's as well as all the other engines. The earlier versions would not do 4.7's.

RE: Decreased Engine Life?

Message:
The only way I can see the tuner reducing engine life is if you run the performance program or the perf/tow program and don't use 91+ octane fuel. This would cause detonation which can quickly kill a motor. If you follow the instructions and use the right grade of fuel for the program you are running your engine life should be fine.

ive got the 3.9 99 at dakota.....done a bunch of mods to it, v8 tb swap, iat relocate, cold air.
dynomax muffler....i was considering the fuel injectors next.....but my question here is this ,
how do i find out if there would be any gains to using the superchip tuner?...even with all my mods...increases in performance have been minimal.the only noticable difference is in improved mileage....before i spend the dough on the tuner i need a lil reassurance.(and no-body around where i live has access to a dyno..grrr)
