Subject: Fog lights-switch, relay and connector IP: Logged
Message: Just finished installing my APC ($40) fog lights but I didn't want to cut up the dash. So I went to the Dodge place and got the headlight switch for fog lights. I paid $53, ouch. The relay was only $11.
Some Q's:
How do you replace the headight switch?
Does the relay go in any particular orientation?
Where can I get the mating connector for the lights to hook up to the factory wiring? I found it BTW in the fan shroud.
Thanks

Message: What year of dak do you have? If it is a 98 or 99 when you go to hook up the factory switch could you do little favor for me, see http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/gen/2012.html for more details. Also, I'm not sure about yours but my dak I did not get with the driving lights from factory yet it cam with all the wires from where the switch goes right to where the lights get installed as well as the relay.... So all I have to do is plug in a factory switch and connect the lights and its ready to light my way down the dark streets at night..

Message: Mine Dak is a 2001. I didn't notice any wires where the factory lights go but to be honest I haven't looked that close.

Message: I have a 99 dak that I put in the factory driving lights and it was easy here are the steps.
1. pull off the trim on the dash.
2. unscrew the headlight switch.
3. push the little red clips on the connector out the oppisite way the go in and unplug.
4. hook up and reinstall the new switch.
5. next your driving light wire harness is there but they are tied up on both sides of the radiator cut the ties and run them down to the holes.
6. in stall the relay in the fuse box under the hood.
7. figure out which side is possitive on the connector wire up the lights and your ready to go.
P.S. I recomend that you buy a haynes manual for you truck it will help you out greatly.

Message: I'll save you all some money. Step one return the switch. All you need to do is ground out a pin in the wiring harness and your lights will go on. Ok, so you don't want to cut up your dash. Well, you have two options. Make a panel that replaces one of the little cubby holes, or just ground the pin permenantly. The fog/driving lights will only go on when your parking or headlamps are on.
All I did was use the wire tap that came with my PIAAs. I don't remember which wire it was, but if you want I can look it up tonight and let you know.

Message: I have a '98 dak, the bumber is not cut out but it has the indents for the fog lights. I am thinking of just cutting out the hole with a dremel and installing the factory lights, anyone see any problems why this wouldn't work?

Message: moe that should work just fine, all they do is bond the back filler plate to the back of the "indents" on models without the driving light option.

Message: I don't know why but I thought the cutout in the dash was a little "pop out" plug. That's all I was after if you were done with yours.
I've checked my FSM but it isn't really clear on the non-foglight panel. maybe it's just a cutout.
