Message: i'm shopping for a new truck and so far for the price/power the dakota is the best bang for the buck. i want a regular cab 4X4 but from what i've seen you cant get the 5.9 motor in it. will the 4.7 beable to tow a 3500 lb car plus trailer? or should i just get a 4X2 and get the 5.9

Message: The only way to get a 4 X 2 with the 5.9L is to get a R/T. A R/T can't tow more than 2,000 lbs. The best combination for towing is a reg cab 4 X 2 with a 4.7L and 3.92 gears. Don't forget the H.D. Service Group.

Message: The heavy duty service group includes: 136 amp alternator, 750 ampere battery, transmission cooler (with automatic) and larger radiator (probably the same as a a/c equipped Dakota)
I would recommend the H.D. service group even if you don't tow anything.
You can find out all you need on the Dodge web site. www.4adodge.com

Message: The Heavy Duty service group also has a electric fan in front of the clutch fan.I don't know if the 4.7 has the extra fan but the 5.9 does.

Message: I have a electric fan in front of my clutch fan, but not sure if that would come with the a/c normally or with the h.d. service group. Interesting question though. I have a 4.7L with both.

Message: The eletric fan is for a/c system. It is comon for front drive vechiles to have on fan for the engin and one for the a/c system. It is very common today with most vechiles to do this. It is not like the old days. This way you have good a/c even while standing sill.

Message: He he. Be kind of hard to have a engine driven fan with a front wheel drive car. Most of the 80's Chrysler front drivers only have one electric fan, it just kicked on when the a/c came on.

Message: I have a '97 Dakota Sport, 5.2L and the HD Sefvice group. The stciker shows a max trailer weight of 4800lbs. What can be done to enhance the brakes, etc to up that capability? I need to tow a 4800lb boat+ 900lbs. oftrailer + stuff....
