Subject: Fog Lights 2002 QC

I bought my '02 QC 4x2 used, and the previous owner apparently had no need for frills and whistles. Just about everything on the truck is base model.

The truck has no fog lights, but it does have the bumper cut-out locations for them. I know there are a lot of non-custom kits on the market that will fit this spot, as well as custom kits.

I hear about people doing the mod all the time, but I never hear about their satisfaction afterwards. Is there anyone who has done this mod and has been really pleased with the lights they purchased? Or on the flip side, anyone who has been really disappointed in the lights they purchased.

If so, please reply and let me know which brand/model you used, I’m trying to collect a little information before I make my purchase.

I don't have a DRASTIC need for fogs, I use the truck as a daily driver (and strictly that)... I was just looking for something to throw a little more light out in front of me late at night.

Then you don't want fog lights. You want driving lights. I have PIAA fogs in mine, because I often need them in the winter. They are excellent in snow storms, fog and heavy rain. But for additional light in the late night hours, they suck.

So get a good set of driving lamps from PIAA, Hella, or other quality supplier. You get what you pay for here. I think 4" was the right size, but measure to be sure. Install them, and use a switch and relay like they are designed. You'll be very happy with the results.

You'll need to fabricate some mounts to adapt the aftermarket lights to the factory mounts. That was pretty easy. I used some 3" plate steel I had lying around. All it need was 3 holes and a bend in the right place. Took an hour to make the first one, and 10 minutes to make the second.

You might also consider just replacing the factory headlamps with aftermarket. A lot cheaper and faster, and maybe all you need. Do a search here.

Thanks Bob,

I've already planned on the Higher Intensity beam for the normal headlamps (no, no stupid "cool blue" HID lamps - just generally brighter lights).

While an additional set of driving lamps is tempting, i live in NE Ohio - with the legendary lake effect snow storms. Hence the desire for a set of fog's as well.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep it in mind when i start looking at the lamps.
