My 2002 V8 45RFE transmission with 66,000 miles finally gave up last week. My question is how many people have had their 45RFE transmission fail on them because of the bolts holding the plate that holds in the accumultors breaking off. Mine happened while I was driving on suburban streets at 35 mph. Check engine came on, transmission in limp mode. Got it to the dealer and after dropping the pan they saw the problem and installed a new valve body but after driving they said that there was more internal problems. The mechanic actually said that the bolts had failed and it has happened before. I saw the valve body and the bolts on the end where the accumulators for third and fourth gears are had broken and the plate had peeled back and the accumulaor had been forced out with broken metal jammed in around the accumulator. Now the third parth warranty company wants to put in a tranmission from who knows where with no history on service etc. Dodge dosen't want to put it in and would rather install a new transmission and so the haggling goes on. But my question is, are there any other people out there with this type of failure?

If your 45RFE is out of warranty, check with a reputable transmission shop where ever you are, 'cause the aftermarket has a HD stiffer accumulator plate. A bunch cheaper and better than the whole new valve body from Dodge.

45RFE is very current...the now current 5-45RFE (which is behind the HEMI in Rams) is a 5-speed spinoff of essentially the same internals to my knowledge.
