Message: If your truck is covered by the recall and you take it in, they'll replace your balljoints regardless of condition... good or bad. New bj's include new boots.

Message: My auto mechanic stated the bottom BJs needed to be replaced due to wear from the top failing so I did, All prior to the recall. Now DC says that they will not cover the bottoms nor the aliginment. What a crock.

Message: The upper ball joints, most likely, did not cause the failure of the lower ball joints. The lower ball joints may have failed for the same reason as the upper joints (the design is practically identical), but are not as big of a safety hazard as upper ball joint failure. They will not cover the cost of a complete front end alignment, but are covering the cost to set the toe (which is required when replacing the upper joints). DC knew there would be many people expecting more than is necessary to correct the predominant hazard (it happens to all manufacturers when there is a recall), but are not obligated beyond the prescribed recall procedure and proven subsequent failures.

Message: Jason,
Thanks for your response.... however I did ask for at least for them to cover setting the toe adjustment.. I was told since it was done as an aliginment they would not cover any of it. I guess this is a lesson learned.. as a Fleet Manager for my company I have bought well over 100 Dodge trucks , that will not happen again.

Message: A friend of mine also had a Dakota which ahd upper BJ failure.. however his fell apart on the road, DC did cover the full repair of his truck.. including the lower BJs.. so I know they have some lattitude.

Message: When I replaced my ball joints last November the lowers were in worse shape than the uppers, and the uppers were pretty bad. Only one of the four had any grease visible anywhere in it. This is on a 2002 with 37,000 miles on it. I took the old ones to the alignment shop with me and the mechanic said that I was lucky to still be driving my truck. When he looked at one of the lower joints he just looked at me and raised his eyebrows...lol The lowers may pose less of a safety risk, but you'll play hell keeping an alignment and the road walking and clunking noises will drive you nuts.
