Message: I've read where it is not recommended to have our trucks ('98) in 4wd while on dry pavement. Why??

Message: A 4WD drive system running on dry pavement puts too much wear on the drivetrain. This is especially true while turning. The front wheels need ice or dirt to make them slip. On dry pavement, this does not happen binding the drivetrain. You'll also encur possible excessive tire wear in the front. Hope that helps.

Only joking, as the last guy said in 4wd the
wheels are locked and turn at the same rate in
4wd. With the wheels locked cornering will be
very unresponsive and stressful on the front axle
and tires.
If you want 4wd on dry pavement as I did get the
AWD "full time electronic transfer case". It is
a $400 option and should be able to be installed
to an existing 4wd although at a higher cost.
With the AWD setup 52% of power goes to the rear
and 48% to the front all the time and the front
wheels are allowed to turn at different rates.

Message: Where did you get that 49/52% power split for the AWD? I have not seen, or heard this before.
I had thought that in AWD mode that the xfer case was acting like a full unlocked differential.
